10 Ways to Make Your Optimist Faster for Less than $25 |
| Tell Tales: No better bang for your buck than this. $4 gets you three sets of tell tales, with adhesive dots. You simply can't trim your sail properly with out a good set of tell tales, and new sails do you very little good if they're not trimmed well. This is a must for every sail on every boat, period. | |

Glide Tape: These self adhesive shim strips reduce friction on your board and give a tighter fit to your trunk. A daggerboard that flops in the trunk disrupts laminar water flow over the foil leading to greater turbulence, lower speed and poor pointing. Fix it for less than $5. |
| Hand Bailer: We suggest two, one tied into each side so that you don't have to come off the rail to bail. The fact is, a cut up Clorox bottle just doesn't do. You need a stiff, efficient scoop to bail quickly. A gallon of water weighs 8 pounds, so just one or two scoops can mean the difference between fast and slow. At Sturgis Boat Works, we include an 1/8 inch bungee lanyard, that means you can reach anywhere in your boat with with a shorter line, lowering the chance of the lanyard being sucked into your mainsheet block! Yep, we're always thinking. |

Tape Measurer: Perfect size for Optimist mast rake measurements. Get you boat balanced, optimize your pointing make sure you can repeat the settings that work. A must for every Optimist sailor's tool box. |
Daggerboard Control System: A two fold plan for faster sailing. Keep your daggerboard where you need, down and firmly in place upwind, up and out of the water on the run. Plus, elevate your hiking straps so that you easily get under them and lock in out a tack. Rigging instructions here. |
| Vectran Bridle with Ring: Optimist Class rules require no more than 10 cm between the boom and bridle ring. Top sailors require drum tight tension, approaching 0 cm distance between the boom and bridle ring. Make your boat faster and safer in one step. |

Vectran Sail Ties: Have you checked your sail ties lately? Sail makers go to great lengths to optimize design shapes to with in millimeters but, it does little good if you don't tie your sail on properly and use the right lines to do it. 0 stretch, 0 creep Vectran is, hands down, the way to go for sail ties. |
| McLube Sailkote: Spray your mast and boom so that sail ties tack easily for improved sail shape. Spray the sail around your tell tales and even wet tell tales will fly. This is especially important for those of you who can't seem to keep your boat upright, you know who you are. |

Daggerboard Protection Kit: 4 rubber bumpers plus glide tape. Shim up your board and protect it's fragile edges. Those hot new blades deserve to be treated like fine art, and besides, chipped blades are slow blades. Spend $24.95 now and save $200 in repair costs later, and go faster along the way. |
| Mast Lock: Ok, so this one is a little over $25. But when you consider the cost of repairing a mast thwart, it's like we paid you buy it! Faster than a tie because it's zero friction on mast rotation but, the real bonus is knowing that you won't be wrecking your mast step when you capsize. |
