One of the most
important speed tips for cold weather sailing is
to stay warm. staying
warm. When
you're warm, you can concentrate better, which results in
better sailing!
Tip #1: Wear a hat.
This sounds so simple, but heat escapes from your head,
and having a hat on will keep you much warmer.
And baseball hats don't count. Wear a wool or fleece
hat (fleece is less scratchy), and you will be NICE AND
TOASTY!
Tip #2: Glove
Liners. Dry gloves keep your hands dry from the
ocean water, but you're still going to sweat on the
inside. Sweat = Cold Hands! So what can you do
to prevent this? Put a glove liner on before you
slip into your dry glove. Think of it as long
underwear for your hands!
Tip #3: Nylons. If
you have ever tried to slip into your booties with your
dry suit socks, you've definitely wasted a lot of
energy. This problem can be easily corrected with
nylon pantyhose. Rubber (dry suit socks)
against neoprene (booties) is just one big tug
of war. But slip the nylon over your seals
and it will make all the difference in the
world. |
